ANGLO BEEF PROCESSORS:

FRESH MESSAGING, PERFECTLY PACKAGED

Anglo Beef Processors’ mission is to be the preferred partner of multiple retailers, manufacturers and caterers for the supply of fresh and frozen meat and meat products. With an annual turnover in excess of £319m, ABP is the UK’s leading meat processor, employing 1,500 people at 13 plants nationwide.

THE COMPANY

Continual commitment to quality is crucial to ABP and during the last
three years the company has benefited from extensive investments in
plant, producer groups, processing technology, packaging machinery,
training programmes and new product developments. With this
investment programme, ABP continues to meet the demands of
today’s consumer and retain its position at the forefront of the industry.

THE CHALLENGE

Following a series of acquisitions, ABP was facing a major challenge.
Nearly 400 employees across 14 UK locations were using a number of
e-mail clients and connecting to distributed CMail servers, which
proved difficult and costly to manage. This system also limited
collaboration and there was a high risk of virus infection. However, the
company’s major concern was that important customer e-mails were
being lost – it was impossible to trace the flow, or verify receipt, of emails
to and from customers. This issue was seriously affecting the
business.

ABP decided to implement a new messaging system within three
months. Two competing products were initially considered –
Microsoft® Exchange and Outlook/Lotus Domino and Notes – taking
into account features, functionality, speed of implementation and Total
Cost of Ownership (TCO) over a five year period.

The decision was made when ABP discovered that the TCO for
Notes/Domino over a five year period was one third of the cost for a
Microsoft Exchange solution. The company selected ACS, an IBM
Business Partner, to deploy the Notes and Domino system.
