Roxel is an Anglo-French company, formed in February 2003 by the merging of CELERG of France and Royal Ordnance Rocket Motors in the UK. Roxel’s renowned expertise covers the full range of propulsion technology to comply with the most advanced requirements. Roxel combines both French and British expertise in design, development and mass production of rocket motors, propulsion units, pyromechanisms and gas generators, providing its customers with the most appropriate solutions.

THE CHALLENGE

Prior to awarding a contract to ACS, Roxel had a support contract in place with a global IT services provider. When this contract came up for renewal, Roxel decided to look for a local company who understood their business needs and could provide a service that was flexible and adaptable enough to meet their current and future IT requirements.

THE SOLUTION

The IT Services contract covers supply, support and maintenance for Roxel’s complete IT infrastructure including desktops, servers, their local and wide-area network (LAN & WAN) and application management services for Roxel’s Oracle-based ERP application.

The transition to ACS services was a complex project that had to be completed within a very tight timescale. ACS had to obtain as much information as possible from the incumbent supplier although this was eased through the transfer of three members of the existing support team to ACS under TUPE.

Security is extremely important to Roxel and all ACS staff involved with the Roxel service underwent strict security vetting in line with MoD requirements.

The implementation project included procurement, configuration and implementation of a complete new server infrastructure. All end user PCs were checked and consistent software images loaded to improve stability and control. A new WAN was commissioned along with Network Management services for both the WAN and the LAN.

ACS worked very closely with Roxel’s management team to ensure that all employees were kept informed of progress.

The 6-month implementation project was completed on time at the end of September with all services successfully transitioned to ACS.

WHY ACS

ACS was able to ensure that all IT systems at Roxel complied with the relevant Government and other security standards including

• Security clearance of all ACS employees involved in delivering services
• Secure disposal of IT assets to meet the required HMG standards for protectively marked data
• Commitment to quality through accreditation to recognised standards including ISO 27001 Information Security Management

ACS was one of the first IT service organisations in the UK to obtain the ISO 27001 (previously BS7799) certification standard covering all company operations. This was a prerequisite for Roxel and consequently highly advantageous to ACS.

Roxel’s values and vision were summed up by their IT Director, Steve Liggitt.
“Security is of paramount importance to the continued operation of Roxel UK. As a company working in the Defence industry our contracts are in support of Government programmes, many of which are considered to be highly sensitive. If we do not meet and maintain the correct levels of security we could lose our accreditation status and would no longer be able to work on Government contracts. We needed an IT supplier that we could trust and who would make our security a priority. The main benefit to Roxel has been the flexibility of the service compared with our previous supplier. ACS were an excellent choice in terms of this and we are extremely pleased with the robust and reliable service they are providing.”

IN SUMMARY

Months after the completion of the implementation project, Roxel are still delighted with the service they are receiving from ACS. The stability of their IT environment is excellent and user satisfaction is high.

ACS has completed a number of additional projects for Roxel including a detailed review of Disaster Recovery provision across the Roxel infrastructure.
